Northern Ireland secured a 7-6 penalties victory over Wales in their last game of a four-team UEFA U-16 Development Tournament in Gornja Radgona, Slovenia, on Monday.

The win followed defeats for the Irish against the hosts and Sweden on Friday and Saturday, respectively, the first day having been delayed by heavy rain.

A hat-trick from Wilma Leidhammar saw the Swedes run out comfortable winners in the clash in Cerkvenjak.

The opening match had finished scoreless but the host nation won out on spot-kicks (2-1), Abbie McHenry the only scorer for Northern Ireland.

Sweden took a 3-0 lead over Wales with a brace by Monica Jusu Bah one from Elin Sjöström, while Elia Humphrey pulled one back 5 minutes from the end.

The Welsh were goalless against Slovenia but lost the shoot-out 3-1,  Jessie Taylor the one to find the net for Wales.

Slovenia topped the table after Nina Kajzba scored the only goal in a victory over Sweden.
