Arsenal Women have confirmed the signing of Gio Queiroz from Barcelona and loaned the 19-year-old out to Everton.

The Brazil international winger scored 11 goals in 31 appearances during a loan spell at Levante last season.

Gio made her senior debut for Madrid CFF at the age of just 15 in 2018, making 14 appearances before sealing a switch to Barcelona in 2020.

The winger spent the 2020/21 season with the Catalan side and was part of the squad that won the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Spanish league title and Spanish Cup before departing for Levante ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

At international level, Gio was part of the Brazil team that won the 2022 Copa America title, committing to her country of birth after playing for them at U-17 level, as well as Spain and the USA.

Gio said: “I’m very excited. I know Arsenal is a great club – it’s one of the best clubs in Europe. All of the players here are very competitive and have a lot of experience, so I’m excited to learn from them and develop. Arsenal is a club that belongs at the top and with hard work we can make sure we are there.”

Arsenal Head Coach Jonas Eidevall said: “We’re delighted to have completed this transfer. Gio is an exciting prospect and we believe she has great potential. We will closely monitor her development this season and look forward to watching her progress.”

Everton Manager Brian Sorensen told evertonfc.com“She’s the last piece of the puzzle for our squad in terms of having diversity of options in the frontline.

“Gio’s joining the squad late in the window, so we’ll give her time to settle in but I’m sure we’ll see a quality player who can help us as a team.”

Gio added: “This is going to be a year of development, to improve myself and get to know the league.

“We all know the WSL is an exciting league with some of the best players in the world. I’m hoping to bring my own style and energy to the team and can’t wait to get started.”
