Canada beat Germany 1-0 at Carrow Road to go top of the Arnold Clark Cup tournament table with one round of games to go.

Vanessa Gilles opened her account for Canada with a header from a seventh-minute Janine Beckie corner but was then fortunate when a Lina Magull shot hit her arm in the penalty area.

She was involved again when blocking a shot from Jana Feldkamp, after which Beckie went close at the other end.

Klara Buhl was denied a first-half equaliser when Kailen Sheridan pulled off a fine save.

Nichelle Prince wasted an opportunity for Canada straight after the restart and might have had a penalty following a challenge by Ann-Katrin Berger, as could have Giulia Gwinn when tackled by Gilles.

Gwinn was also thwarted by Sheridan’s outstretched leg, Gilles again made a vital block to deny Maximiliane Rall in the last minute of the ninety.
