Sheffield United have signed forward Sophie Haywood from Barclays Women’s Super League Aston Villa ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The 26-year-old, formerly of Notts County, experienced promotion with Villa back in 2020 as her side beat United to the title in a hard-fought race, and featured for Villa in the top division before an ACL injury ruled her out last season.
Now back fit and ready to get back on the pitch, Haywood brings proven quality to United’s front line and can play in a variety of positions, bringing extra versatility to head coach Neil Redfearn’s attacking options.
Haywood said: “I’m really chuffed. I’m just happy to be here and excited to get the season going and to be part of
such a good club.
“I was out for about a year, but I’ve been back fit from around February but didn’t have a chance to get back playing and enjoy my football and that was one of the reasons I came here.”
Redfearn commented: “Sophie is another player added to the squad who has experienced promotion from this league.
“She’s an athletic player and has great movement in attack. She will complement and strengthen our forward line really well.”
