The opening Group C game in the UEFA Women’s Euros saw Portugal retrieve a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Switzerland.

Switzerland burst into a 2-0 lead in only five minutes, watched by around 6,000 at Leigh Sports Village.

Coumba Sow got the opener from distance, before Ramona Bachmann’s free kick saw Rachel Kiwic head home the second.

Portugal got a quick double themselves to wipe out the Swiss advantage, Diana Gomes beating Gaelle Thalman at the second attempt and Jessica Silva equalising on 65 minutes from a ball Tatiana Pinto.

Both keepers made saves to keep their team on level terms, while Telma Carnacao came closest to a winner for Portugal but her strike from the edge of the box struck the far post.

With Netherlands and Sweden the other two teams in the group, both sides could have done with all three points.
