Sheffield United edged Watford 1-0 on Wednesday evening to climb two places to seventh in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

The result sees Sheffield seven points above the relegation zone and Watford still four points from safety, before their massive basement clash with Lewes this Sunday.

The Blades led within ten minutes, Tara Bourne’s header going in off the Hornets’ Lucia Leon in front of over 2,000 at Bramall Lane.

Leon nearly found the net at the other end but her effort dropped just over the bar and moments later, Ellie Head nodded a Coral Haines ball against the Sheffield crossbar.

United were also denied by the bar, as close to half time an Izzy Goodwin cross was met by Jess Sigsworth.
