As reported by BBC Sport, Reading have become the first club in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League to furlough its players.
The Royals have been placed on the government scheme, along with the men’s U-23 squad, leaving Reading to pay the other 20% of players’ salaries.
Some Women’s Championship clubs have also apparently furloughed players but Chelsea FC recently announced in a statement that:
“We are continuing our current level of financial and other support to our professional women players and also to our women’s academy programmes.”
