Reading pulled off a 1-0 win over Chelsea as the Blues missed the chance to go top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Reading were ahead in the fourth minute, Deanne Rose embarking on a long run and playing a one-two with Emma Harries before firing past Zećira Mušović.

Millie Bright came close to levelling but her goalbound effort was cleared by Gemma Evans, who also later made a double block to keep the Royals in front at half-time.

Chelsea continued to struggle to get shots on target after the interval, Pernille Harder three times missing the goal and although Ji So-yun blasted an effort towards the net, it was charged down in the box.

Fran Kirby saw her shot drop just over the bar in the dying minutes, Guro Reiten had a stoppage-time strike deflected for a corner but the Royals held out for a famous victory which saw them jump to fifth in the table.
