Wales ended their group matches at the UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship qualifiers in Denmark with a 1-0 over North Macedonia.

Lauren Smith’s side amassed 29 shots to none from the underdogs, 14 of those on target but just the one finding the net.

Mary McAteer’s effort midway through the first half gave Wales the points and saw then finish level on ponts with Denmark in second but far behind on goal-difference. Their meeting in midweek had ended as a draw.

Russia won the group after a seven-goal thriller with the Danes in which Elizaveta Semenova got the winner 6 minutes into added time.

Wales are unlikely to be one of the best third-placed sides to go through, having only taken a single point against the two qualified teams.
