Manchester United defeated Liverpool with two goals in the last 20 minutes for their first ever points in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Lauren James was closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half, hitting the crossbar 5 minutes before the break, while Mary Earps had earlier got back to prevent Courtney Sweetman-Kirk chipping the visitors ahead.

Liverpool were punished when a stray ball from Rinsola Babajide was picked up by Jess Sigsworth and fed through to James, who turned inside her marker to score from 8 yards out.

Both Leah Galton and Kirsty Hanson hit the bar in quick succession for United as they looked to seal the win.

That they eventually did in added time when Katie Zelem sent Anke Preuss the wrong way from the spot

The result saw United leap up to fifth in the table while Liverpool lay bottom.
