Wales got off the mark in their UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship qualifying round mini-tournament in Denmark by holding the hosts to a goalless draw.

The Danes registered 21 shots to just two for Wales but even so, Lauren Smith’s side managed to keep a clean sheet.

Ella Humphrey had both efforts for the Welsh, Sophie Gravesen came closest for Denmark but was denied by the woodwork, while Wales goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel made a number of saves.

But added to the 3-0 defeat by Russia, the chances of Wales progressing to the Elite Round seem slim.

Russia beat North Macedonia 5-0 today to go through and Wales need a favour from them against Denmark, whom they trail by three points and a margin of 14 in goal-difference.

North Macedonia have conceded 16 goals already though and face Wales on Saturday afternoon at Skjern Stadium.
