Cardiff Met moved ten points clear at the top of the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League with a 4-1 result against Abergavenny, Port Talbot Town put six past Cyncoed to go second.

WPWL results for Sunday 24 February

Cardiff City FC 5-0 Rhyl
Cardiff Met 4-1 Abergavenny
Llandudno 0-4 Swansea City
Port Talbot Town 6-1 Cyncoed

Naomi Clipston headed the Archers in front and Madison Schupbach doubled the lead with only 16 minutes played. Schupbach struck another fine goal 2 minutes into the second half and although Abergavenny got one back through Laura-Jane Davies, Clipston then completed her brace.

Port Talbot hit Cyncoed for six to go second in the table but there was only one in it at the break, with an own-goal fro a Lauren Amor cross. Laura-May Walkley swiftly made it 2-0 after the restart, Jess Denscombe and Courteney Thomas took it to 4-0 before the visitors replied. Walkley and Thomas then both doubled their tallies for the day.

Swansea City are third after netting all four goals at Llandudno, Sophie Hancocks hitting two goals in as many minutes in the last 5 minutes of the first half to get them on their way. Kelly Adams added a third goal in a ten-minute spell straddling the interval and Jodie Passmore capped a good team move for the fourth goal close to full time.

Cardiff City FC Women went fourth with a 5-0 defeat of Rhyl in which Lisa Bird featured with a hat-trick inside the first 30 minutes. Cath Walsh and Hannah Daley also got on the scoresheet in the last dozen minutes.

There is just one fixture next Sunday, 3rd March but it’s a top of the table clash with Cardiff Met hosting Port Talbot at Cyncoed Campus, kick-off 2pm.
