#WPWL : Cardiff Met go six points clear

Cardiff Met go into the festive break with a six-point lead at the top of the Orchard Welsh Women’s Premier League, following a 5-2 result at Rhyl where Madison Schupbach hit a hat-trick.

Rhyl 2-5 Cardiff Met

Cardiff Met made it seven wins from eight games at Rhyl, where Schupbach and Liv Thompson soon had them 2-0 up, the hosts replying before the interval through Caroline Gardner. Robyn Pinder made it 3-1 and although Laura Williams got a second goal back, Schupbach won and converted a penalty before completing her hat-trick.

Swansea City are up to second with both goals in the game at Cardiff City FC. Sophie Hancocks scored 9 minutes in and Emma Beynon sealed the points with a late header.

Port Talbot put five past basement side Briton Ferry to climb into fourth spot. Laura May Walkley and Lauren Amor got first-half goals, Walkley later doubling her tally for the day, while Courteney Thomans and Jess Denscombe also registered.

Llandudno leapfrogged Cyncoed into sixth place after defeating them 5-3 away from home. Fflur Williams scored twice for the visitors, Kelsey Davies, Mari Gibbard and Jasmin Dutton once each. Caitlin Bevan got a couple of goals back for Cyncoed and Hayley Hoare the other.

October / November Awards

The winner of the combined October/November WPWL Manager of the Month was Cardiff Met’s Kerry Harris, who guided her team to an unbeaten run through the period to see them the top of the table.

The performances of Swansea City’s Shaunna Jenkins won her take the Player of the Month award.
