Watford edged Nottingham Forest 1-0 at Stadium MK to seal a swift return to the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Hornets’ keeper Jacqui Goldsmid saved from Yasmin Mosby in the FAWNL Championship Play-off, before Watford took a 17th-minute lead when Gemma Davison’s cross to the far post was headed home by Poppy Wilson.

Goldsmid and Sophie McClean combined to keep Sophie Domingo from levelling when exchanging passes with Charlotte Greengrass.

Ellie Head has the ball in the net for Watford but was flagged offside, Annie Rossiter fired a good chance over after good work by Flo Fyfe.

Forest’s Amy West fired just wide of the far post, Greengrass headed over going into the last 10 minutes.

Goldsmid took down Greengrass outside the box but Becky Anderson put the stoppage-time free kick wide.
