London City Lionesses beat Barclays Women’s Championship leaders

London City Lionesses beat Bristol City to cut their lead at the top of the Barclays Women’s Championship in half.

Southampton 0-1 Durham
Sunderland 1-1 Sheffield United
Coventry United 1-4 Charlton Athletic
London City Lionesses 2-0 Bristol City

London City Lionesses came out on top in the title six-pointer with Bristol City, cutting their advantage to three points.

Atlanta Primus broke the deadlock five minutes after the interval and swiftly struck again, finishing the cross from Sarah Ewens.

Durham won away to Southampton, with the only goal just after the hour mark by Rio Hardy following a run from Grace Ayre. The win took the Wildcats up to seventh place, the Saints slip to fourth.

Sheffield United edged into tenth place with a draw at Sunderland. Bex Rayner played in Mia Enderby to fire the Blades into a first-half lead. The Black Cats were level on 69 minutes, when Abbey Joice ran through to slot home.

Charlton Athletic went third after the win at Coventry United, who fell nine points adrift of Blackburn Rovers at the bottom.

Melissa Johnson caught the Coventry keeper of her line from distance for an early goal, later doubling her tally from Emily Simpkins’ cross.

It was 3-0 five minutes after the restart, Freda Ayisi setting up Simpkins, Johnson completed her hat-trick late on, with Morgan Cross getting a consolation for Coventry.
