Germany ended Spain’s 24-match unbeaten run when beating them 2-0 in UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Group B at Brentford.

The 16,000 crowd witnessed Germany take a very early lead, when goalkeeper Sandra Panos’s attempted  clearance was hit straight at Klara Buhl, who finished well.

Lucia Garcia got through on goal at the other end but took the ball too wide of the keeper and could only find the side-netting.

Mariona Caldentey was inches wide from the edge of the area for Spain but they were two down before the break, when Alexandra Popp headed in a corner taken by Felicitas Rauch.

While Germany won the group, more bad news for Spain was that Alexia Putellas could be out for a year after her ACL injury.

However, a draw against Denmark in their last group game will put Spain into the quarter-finals, where England await.
