Belgium secured second spot in UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Group D with a 1-0 defeat of Italy, while Iceland held France.

Tine de Caigny struck from the edge of the box early in the second half, as the Red Flames reached the quarter-finals for the first time.

Cristiana Girelli hit the crossbar as Italy looked to get back into the game but it was Belgium who booked a last-eight tie with Sweden.

Iceland’s slim hopes against France suffered a first-minute set-back, as Melvine Malard tucked away a pass from Clara Mateo.

They did depart with the credit if a draw however, as Dagny Brynjarsdottir converted a penalty in the 12th minute of stoppage time.
