In Wednesday’s Southern Counties Cup fixtures, Sussex scored three times in the last quarter of an hour to deny the Navy victory, while Essex stormed to a 7-0 win in Hertfordshire.

Ciara Boylan gave the Navy an early lead via the upright, Anthia Kaptein doubled the advantage when returning a poor clearance into the net from 25 yards out and Nat Bavister nodded in the third before the break.

Ariana Fleischman was denied a goal back by a clearance off the line but when Nicole Webley’s through ball found Sara Tubby, she calmly slotted past the keeper.

The Navy very nearly restored the three-goal cushion but Lillian Tucker headed off the line and with 4 minutes left, Fleischman set up Tubby for her second goal.

There were 3 minutes remaining when the ball ricocheted nicely into the path of Fleischman on the edge of the box and she chipped in the equaliser.

The come back was nearly undone though as an opportunity opened up for the visitors but the shot was tipped around the post by Nina Wilson.

Essex sink Herts seven-nil

Essex took just 9 minutes to open the scoring at Letchworth, as Courtney Clarke fired a fine low shot in off foot of right hand post.

Hertfordshire’s Gemma Croucher saw her drive well held by goalkeeper Grace Staunton and it was 2-0 when Sophie Vale’s 20-yard lob dropped in.

Georgia Box’s close-range lofted effort made it 3-0 on 35 minutes, with Yasmin Cowley and a Charlotte Bryant header taking the lead to 5-0 by the break.

When Lindsay Morgan’s shot was parried, Miagh Downey fired in number six midway through the second half and Cowley later completed the scoring.
