Sunderland AFC Ladies have signed midfielder Emma Kelly following the expiration of her contract with Birmingham City.

It will be the 24-year-old’s second spell with the Black Cats, having helped them win promotion from WSL 2 in 2014.

Later playing in Iceland with top-flight side ÍB Vestmannaeyjar, she was named the club’s player of the year, and in January 2020 the former England youth international joined Birmingham City.

Sunderland manager Mel Reay told safc.com: “I am absolutely delighted to bring Emma back to the club. She will bring a lot of experience to this young squad and will play an important role throughout the season. She has some fantastic attributes and I’m sure fans will be excited to see her back in red and white.”
