Sheffield United have signed highly experienced Barclays Women’s Championship defender Leanne Cowan from London City Lionesses.
The 28-year-old has played regularly in the league over the years and was part of the first London City squad after being an integral part of the Millwall team in the old FA WSL 2.
A full-back who can play either left or right, Cowan signed for Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021 and remained with the club until last year, when she eventually returned to London City Lionesses at the start of 2024 and helped the team to a rise in form towards the back end of the campaign.
Cowan said: “I’m really happy to get this over the line. It’s a massive club, it’s got a great history and I’m excited to come up here.
“I was looking for a clean slate. My whole career has pretty much been in London, so the opportunity to move away and start afresh really appealed to me.”
Head coach Ash Thompson commented: “Leanne knows this level very well having spent a number of years in the second tier and we’re very pleased to have her.
“She’s a versatile player capable playing a number of positions on both sides of the pitch and we’re looking forward to seeing her in a Blades shirt.”
