Sheffield United Women’s club captain Sophie Barker and defender Ali Johnson will be leaving the club after the completion of their contracts this summer.

Barker made 46 appearances for the Blades over a two-year spell and took the captain’s armband for last season.

The 29-year-old initially joined the Blades from Doncaster Rovers Belles when the club earned a licence for the FA Women’s Championship in 2018.

Manager Carla Ward told sufc.co.uk: “I would like to say a massive thank you to Barks. She has been instrumental in our success on the pitch this season, we thank her for efforts and I wish her all the very best with her next move.”

Johnson joined the club at the start of the campaign after spells in the FA WSL with Liverpool and Bristol City.

The former England U-21 international made seven appearances over the course of the season and the manager had only praise for the full-back after an injury-hit season restricted her minutes on the pitch.

“Despite a frustrating season on the pitch, Ali’s remained professional in her work off the pitch and been a credit to the squad. We wish her well and all the very best for her next move.”
