ScottishPower SWPL: Seven-goal Celtic Women top on goal-difference

The second round of matches in the ScottishPower SWPL saw Celtic, Glasgow City, Hearts and Rangers continue their winning starts.

Hibernian 4-1 Montrose
Partick Thistle 0-3 Glasgow City
Celtic 7-1 Hamilton Academical
Hearts 3-0 Dundee United
Motherwell 1-0 Spartans
Rangers 5-1 Aberdeen

Glasgow City were 3-0 winners against Partick Thistle. Hayley Lauder and Amy Muir were on target as City went in two goals to the good against Partick, Lauren Davidson added a late penalty.

Rangers defeated Aberdeen 5-1 with four goals in a ten-minute second-half spell. Chelsea Cornet fired them in front but Bayley Hutchison equalised to send the Dons in level. Mia McAulay bagged a quick brace, with Rio Hardy and Kathryn Hill then contributing one apiece.

Celtic sank Hamilton 7-1, racing into a 4-0 lead in half an hour. Kit Loferski’s opener was followed by a Chloe Craig penalty sandwiched between Amy Gallacher’s double. Josephine Giard pulled one back by the break but Shen Mengyu, Tiree Burchill and Celya Barclais added one each for the Hoops in the second half.

Hibernian got off the mark by sending newcomers Montrose to a second successive defeat. Leading them 4-0 by half time through Joelle Murray, Tegan Bowie, Mya Christie and Naomi Powell’s free kick, the visitors had a better second 45 with Neve Guthrie getting one back.

Hearts were 3-0 winners over Dundee United, with Kathleen McGovern scoring twice. Danni McGinley and McGovern both struck in the final ten minutes of the first period, McGovern got the third five minutes after the restart.

Motherwell edged Spartans with the only goal of the game seven minutes from time. Jo Addie’s free kick found Kaela McDonald-Nguah, who scored on the half-volley.

Glasgow Women 1-2 Livingston
Kilmarnock 1-0 Boroughmuir Thistle
Queen’s Park 4-1 St Johnstone
Stirling University 2-0 Gartcairn

Queen’s Park stayed top on goal-difference with a 4-1 result over St Johnstone, as Ellie Kane twice found the net. Nicole Cairney put the Spiders ahead, Ellie Mitchell saved a penalty but Kane converted a second, scored again from open play, Abby Callaghan making it 4-0 before the visitors’ late consolation.

Kilmarnock remain second following a narrow win against Boroughmuir Thistle. Dionne Brown’s first-half goal was enough to secure all three points.

Stirling University also made it two wins from two, as last season’s runners-up Gartcairn suffered a second defeat. Stirling struck twice after the interval, Mariluz Sanchez netting before setting up Carrie McGorm to double the lead.

Livingston’s first-ever points at this level came with two late goals in a 2-1 victory at Glasgow Women. Kayleigh Barghati’s opener was cancelled out on 84 minutes by Lauren Evans’ header, Beth McKay grabbing a last-minute decider from distance.
