Mary Earps has been crowned England Women’s Player of the Year connected by EE to put the seal on another tremendous 12 months.
Lionesses supporters voted the Manchester United goalkeeper as the top performer in the 2022-23 season ahead of Lucy Bronze and Alex Greenwood in second and third respectively.
Earps had a key role in England’s run to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final this summer, winning the FIFA golden glove award for best goalkeeper. She was also integral as the team won the inaugural Women’s Finalissima with a shoot-out defeat of Brazil back in April.
The shot-stopper had begun the calendar year by being honoured as the 2022 FIFA Best goalkeeper in February. She has the chance to retain the award after being nominated again last week for the 2023 edition.
Earps played 16 times for her nation over the last 12 months, with the impressive run including two appearances in the Arnold Clark Cup success back in February. The record also covered all seven England games at the World Cup including a player of the match performance as the Lionesses overcame Nigeria on penalties in the last 16.
Capped 41 times overall, Earps was surprised with the news at St. George’s Park by her teammate Millie Bright as she prepared for the start of UEFA Women’s Nations League. England take on Scotland at Sunderland on Friday night before the trip to Utrecht to play the Netherlands next Tuesday.
