Liverpool captain Gemma Bonner is set to miss 8-12 weeks after she sustained ankle ligament damage during the Reds 2-0 victory over Bristol City on Saturday.

Reds defender Bonner sustained the injury during the first half of the FAWSL clash with scans revealing that she will now miss the next two to three months.

Manager Scott Rogers told ladies.liverpoolfc.com: “To lose Gemma at such an important part of the season is a massive blow as she is such an important player and big leader for us. She has been playing some of the best football of her career this season, so this injury is especially disappointing.

“However, this injury will give the likes of Amy (Turner) a chance to improve her fitness levels as well as giving Ellie (Fletcher) a chance to show that she is capable of playing at FA WSL1 level, so we have to remain upbeat going into the final stages of the season.”
