FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup: Nigeria defeat France

The second day at the FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica saw Nigeria beat France in the opening Group C game.

Flourish Sabastine got the only goal of the game five minutes from time, while in the same group South Korea were 2-0 winners over Canada.

Brooklyn Courtnall conceded an own-goal early in the second half, with Mun Ha-yeon doubling the lead after the hour mark.

USA started Group D with a 3-0 victory over Ghana, Michelle Cooper, Alyssa Thompson and Ally Sentnor on target.

Defending champions Japan edged Netherlands 1-0, with Yuzuki Yamamoto finding the net midway through the first half.

It’s back to Groups A & B on Saturday 13 August, when Brazil go up against Australia and Costa Rica take on Spain in the former, Germany play New Zealand and Mexico meet Colombia in the latter.
