Birmingham City were denied their second Barclays FA Women’s Super League win of the season as Tottenham Hotspur took a point from a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.
The Blues did however end a run of three defeats in all competitions but almost gifted Spurs an early goal from Rebecca Holloway’s back pass, which Rosella Ayane intercepted and shot against the post.
Tottenham’s Kit Graham saw one effort blocked for a corner and another hit straight at goalkeeper Hannah Hampton before City took the lead midway through the half, Abbi Grant getting in behind the defence to head Lucy Staniforth’s ball over Becky Spencer.
Holloway’s free-kick nearly doubled the lead as Spencer tipped it over the bar, while the visitors might have levelled on half-time but Rianna Dean’s long-range chip went wide with Hampton out of her goal.
Gemma Davison came off the bench but was denied by the home keeper before Graham found the equaliser on 73 minutes, meeting a free-kick with a far-post diving header.
