FA Girls’ Youth Cup: Three teams go through on penalties

The FA Girls’ Youth Cup got underway on Saturday 28 September and saw three teams go through on penalties; Blackburn Rovers, Everton and Southampton.

FA GIRLS’ YOUTH CUP 1st ROUND 

Milton Keynes Dons 5-2 Essex RTC
Charlton Athletic 0-6 Chelsea
Bristol City 2-2 Southampton (Southampton won 4-1 on pens)
Birmingham City P-P Brighton & Hove Albion (now 12 October)
Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 Gillingham
Reading 0-4 Arsenal
Millwall Lionesses 1-3 Aston Villa
West Bromwich Albion 7-1 Oxford United
Sunderland & Gateshead P-P Teesside Sports (new date tbc)
Leeds United 3-1 Stoke City
Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-4 Manchester City
Everton 1-1 Manchester United (Everton won 5-4 on pens)
Sheffield United 2-2 Blackburn Rovers (Blackburn won 6-5 on pens)
Leicester City 5-0 Liverpool
Durham 4-1 York City
Derby County 3-2 Nottingham Forest

Blackburn substitute Katie Smith scored to force a shoot-out at Sheffield United which Rovers eventually won in sudden-death.

Everton eliminated Manchester United 5-4 from the spot and Southampton came through 4-1 at Bristol City after sharing four goals.

Arsenal began their defemce of the cup by winning 4-0 at Reading, 2018-19 beaten finalists Chelsea hit hosts Charlton Athletic for six.

Plate winners Doncaster Rovers Belles will again compete for that trophy after a 4-2 loss to Manchester City.
