Birmingham City are mourning the loss of U9 and U10 girls’ coach Dean Prentice, who had been terminally ill with bowel cancer.
The 28-year-old, who was first diagnosed with the condition in 2018 and told in March 2020 that it was terminal, had launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for a wonder drug that could have extended his life.
Birmingham City Women wrote on twitter; ‘We are devastated to learn of the passing of one of our own, Dean Prentice, aged just 28. An incredible coach within our @BCFCRTC, Dad, friend and person. Our thoughts are with Dean’s family and friends this evening.’
Birmingham City Regional Talent Club also paid tribute: ‘Great coach and even better person. Created fantastic memories for the players he worked with. Thoughts with family and friends RIP Dean.’
