The second round of group games at the UEFA Women’s U-19 Championship on Saturday 21 July saw Norway go through with victory over France and the Netherlands also seal back-to-back wins.
Frsnce created more chances in the Group A match with Norway but were beaten by a timely Sophie Haug goal, two minutes before the interval.
In the same group, holders Spain got off the mark with a 2-0 defeat of hosts Switzerland as each goalkeeper saved a penalty. Malin Gut was denied early on by María Echezarreta Fernández, Olga Carmona and Rosa Marquez Baena scored for Spain before Nerea Eizaguirre’s spot-kick was kept out by Elivra Herzog.
Spain now only need a draw against France on Tuesday to progress, while the Swiss must beat Norway and also hope France beat Spain to have any chance of taking second spot from Les Bleues on goal difference.
The Dutch lead group B by three points after defeating Germany with a Rebecca Doejaaren goal 18 minutes from time.
Sara Holmgaard got the only goal as Denmark banked their first points with victory over Italy.
The Netherlands still need a point against Denmark on Tuesday to secure their semi-final berth, while Germany should follow them through by beating Italy.
