Swansea City opened up a six-point lead in the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League as second-placed Cardiff City FC went down 3-0 at Cardiff Met.
WPWL results – 12 January
Briton Ferry Llansawel 0-4 Swansea City
Cardiff Met 3-0 Cardiff City Women
Cyncoed 3-2 Aberystwyth Town
Swansea City made it eight straight wins with a 4-0 result at Briton Ferry Llansawel but had to be patient, as it wasn’t until the 53rd minute that they made the breakthrough. Katie Hosford missed a first-half penalty but her eventual opener was immediately added to by Stacey John-Davies, Hosford then getting her second and Lowri Ridings conceding a late own-goal.
Cardiff Met are within three points of Cardiff City FC Women from a game fewer after downing the Bluebirds 3-0. Erin Murray struck in the first 4 minutes of either half, while Robyn Pinder was on target 15 minutes in.
Cyncoed clinched their first win in dramatic fashion, just when Aberystwyth Town thought they had done likewise. Caitlin Williams gave the Cardiff side the lead and although Emily Thomas and Tania Wylde turned the match in Aber’s favour, two goals in the last three minutes from Grace Morris and Libby Mackenzie secured a home win.
