Cardiff Met, treble winners last season, began the new domestic campaign with a 7-0 win over Briton Ferry in the Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup.

Met’s new signing Jodie Passmore took only 5 minutes to volley home the opener and Amy Long doubled the lead before Madison Schupbach bagged a brace and Steph Turner also contributed to a 5-0 interval advantage.

Llansawel restricted the holders to two goals after the break, Kitty Wells finding the net and Schupbach completing her hat-trick in style a minute from time.

Port Talbot Town picked up the points in the other tie with a 3-0 home win over Aberystwyth Town, who won promotion back up from the Welsh Women’s League.

Coryn Sexton and Courteney Thomas gave them a 2-0 lead by half time and Jess Curren rounded off the scoring in the 74th minute.

Next Sunday, 8 September, it’s the opening league fixtures:

Abergavenny v Cardiff City FC
Briton Ferry Llansawel v Llandudno
Cardiff Met v Swansea City
Port Talbot Town v Cyncoed
