#WomensFACup 2nd Rd: Sunderland Ladies narrowly beat Boro

Sunderland just got the better of Middlesbrough in The Women’s FA Cup delayed 2nd Round ties, Huddersfield Town won on penalties at Stoke City.

Sunderland won a seven-goal thriller against Middlesbrough to book a trip to Fylde in the new year. Bridget Galloway’s double and two own-goals sent the Black Cats through.

Burnley’s Sarah Greenhalgh struck twice, the second a minute from the end, as Hull City were edged out 2-1 having opened the scoring through harley Skinner. The Clarets will host Nottingham Forest in the next round.

Laura Elford had Huddersfield ahead at Stoke but Meg Bowyer forced extra-time with an 83rd-minute header. With no further addition to the score, penalties were required and the Terriers profited 4-3 from the spot.

West Bromwich Albion knocked out Lincoln City with a goal in either half, Hattie James and Keeley Davies on target as they sealed a trip to Southampton Women’s.

Brighouse Town came through 2-1 after extra-time at Chorley and wll now have home advantage over Barnsley. The hosts scored early on through Grace Vella but Hannah Freibeach equalised and Chloe Wild struck the winner.

Portsmouth put out Leyton Orient 6-1 with a trip to Ipswich Town up next. Allison McCann gave the O’s a surprise lead but a Becki Bath brace plus one each from Tamsin de Bunsen and Laura Ingram had Pompey go in 4-1 up at the interval. De Bunsen got the fifth from distance and Jazz Younger then notched her first goal for the hosts.

Chester le Street Town bowed out 4-0 at home to Loughborough Foxes, whose reward is a home tie with Huddersfield Town.
