The FA of Wales is recognising and celebrating the trailblazing Wales players that represented the women’s national team in the 1970s and 1980s, prior to coming under FAW affiliation.
The cap presentation will take place at a special event at St Fagan’s Museum on the evening of Friday 4 October.
The FAW has records of 27 matches taking place between 1973 and 1993, when the FAW affiliated team was formed and played its first fixture against Iceland in Afan Lido. More than 200 matches later, Wales have gone from strength to strength and will be playing in their first UEFA EURO play-off fixture in October. A journey that was paved by those involved in the 1970s and 80s.
Over the last 18 months, the FAW has been working on obtaining contacts of former players that were involved in squads at the time to honour and celebrate their achievements. As part of this, players were invited to a pre-match celebration event when Cymru played Iceland in the Cardiff City Stadium last December.
Through the support of former player Michele Adams MBE and historian John Carrier amongst others, 94 players have been identified from the era, and contact details have been obtained for 44 of those players. Now the FAW is launching a public call of action to help find the remaining contact details for players or their family to help celebrate their successes.
If you have contact details for a player or family member of those listed below, please contact press@faw.cymru. For those unable to attend the presentation evening on Friday 4 October, the FAW will look at organizing delivering caps.
