Wales Women pipped on penalties by Belgium at Pinatar Cup

Wales will face Republic of Ireland for third place at the Pinatar Women’s Cup, while Scotland contest fifth spot with Hungary.

Wales held the the tournament’s highest ranked side to a goalless draw in 90 minutes before losing the shoot-out.

Jess Fishlock was close to giving Wales an early lead with a half-volley, while Olivia Clark did well to deny the Red Flames’ Sarah Wijnants, who also struck the post.

Chloe Williams made her debut and was involved in a late move from which fellow substitute Megan Wynne could not quite finish off.

When it came down to penalties, Kayleigh Green was the only player to convert for Gemma Grainger’s side.

Wales now meet Republic of Ireland for third place on Tuesday, the Irish having lost out to an early goal against Russia, Elizaveta Lazareva netting after seven minutes.

Scotland defeat Slovakia

Scotland took little more than three minutes to score, Caroline Weir knocking the ball through for Abi Harrison to finish past the keeper.

Claire Emslie chipped the ball over the bar but crossed for Martha Thomas to double the first-half advantage.

Scotland will play Hungary in Tuesday’s fifth-place match after Poland were beaten 2-1. Fanny Vago got a stoppage-time winner after Henrietta Csiszar’s opener was cancelled out by Weronika Zawistowska.
