VfL Wolfsburg’s 2-0 victory over SC Freiburg on Wednesday sealed their fourth straight Flyeralarm Frauen Bundesliga championship.
Joelle Wedemayer and the league’s top scorer – Pernille Harder – got the goals as Wolfsburg won a sixth such title with two games to spare, as they moved eight points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich.
Wolfsburg thereby secured their place in the 2020-21 UEFA Women’s Champions League, ahead of meeting Glasgow City in the quarter-finals of the current edition of the UWCL in August.
Bayern are also still involved in the 2019-20 competition and up against holders Lyon, while one win from their last two league games will see them take the Bundesliga’s second European berth for next season, ahead of 1899 Hoffenheim.
At the other end of the table a winless USV Jena were already down, while MSV Duisberg currently occupy the other relegation place just a point short of both 1. FC Köln and Bayer Leverkusen.
