France beat Belgium 2-1 at Rotherham to secure a quarter-final place and top spot in UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 Group D.

Kadidiatou Diani took only six minutes or so to put France in front, heading home a Sakina Karchaoui cross to the far post.

France lost Marie-Antoinette Katoto to injury but Belgium keeper Nicky Evrard made a point-blank save as Les Bleues attacked in waves.

But from nowhere, Tessa Wullaert played in Nicole Cayman to prod the Red Flames back on level terms.

France restored the lead before the break, Griedge Mbock Bathy with a close-range header from Clara Mateo’s cross to the far post.

Belgium’s Amber Tysiak received a second yellow card for handball but Wendy Renard’s penalty in the dying minutes was saved.
