#TotalAWCON18 : Cameroon & South Africa lead groups

Cameroon and South Africa only need a point each from their last group games at the Africa Women Cup of Nations to book their semi-final places.

Mali bounced back from an opening game defeat to beat hosts Ghana 2-1 in Group A. Bassira Touré’s penalty was cancelled out by Elizabeth Addo’s free kick but 4 minutes later Touré’ restored the lead.

Cameroon made it back-to-back wins with a 3-0 result against Algeria, Gabrielle Onguéné, Gaelle Enganamouit and Ajara Nchout their scorers.

South Africa also secured a second victory with a 7-1 Group B thrashing of Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, Thembi Kgatlana bagging a brace among her side’s six different goalscorers.

Nigeria are second on goal-difference after defeating Zambia 4-0, Desire Oparanozie was twice on target.

The last round of group games are on 23 & 24 November, with the top three teams at the tournament qualifying for next year’s World Cup.
