Team GBR Beaten In World University Games Opener

Great Britain were defeated 3-1 by South Africa on Friday, in their first Group D game at the World University Games in Chinese Taipei.

Lucy Quinn had given them the lead right on half time but that was cancelled out 2 minutes after the restart by Refiloe Jane.

Thembi Kgatlana then scored twice in the last 8 minutes to give all 3 points to the South Africans.

Ireland played out a goalless draw with Mexico in Group B but in Group C Brazil battered Colombia 17-0.

Group A’s matches saw the hosts sink Argentina 3-0, while South Korea won by the same scoreline over the USA.

The next round of fixtures is on Sunday, as follows:

Canada v Ireland
Japan v Colombia
Chinese Taipei v USA
South Korea v Argentina
Russia v South Africa
