A dominant Spain were UEFA Women’s U-19 champions for a third time thanks to a María Llompart free kick 10 minutes from time.
Playing in 34c heat at Switzerland’s Bienne Arena, Spain registered twenty efforts at goal compared to Germany’s two.
Rosa Marquez hit the underside of the crossbar in the first half and the second period saw the woodwork come to Germany’s rescue again, this time Nerea Eizaguirre going close to capping a fine move with a goal.
But when Elena Julve won a free kick outside the box with the clock ticking down, Llompart looped the set-piece into the back of the net.
The victory means that Spain have become the first nation to win UEFA Women’s U-17 and U-19 titles in the same year, while Germany’s consolation is that they equalled France’s record of reaching nine finals.
