Charlton Athletic have signed 27-year-old goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse from Lewes where she spent the last two seasons.

She had a college career in the US before spells with Bristol city, Birmingham City and Tottenham Hotspur, followed by 31 appearances for Lewes.

Whitehouse told charltonafc.com: “It’s really exciting, it’s good to be in such professional environment and to get to work.”

“I have worked with Karen [Hills] previously and I really like the style of play. Charlton did really well last year and came super close to promotion so I am excited for this year and hopefully getting close and that extra point!”

“The championship is obviously a very competitive league and a lot of teams are recruiting a lot of good players so I’m excited for how competitive its going to be. Every game is so close and it’s going to be really interesting as so many teams are pushing for promotion.”
