Sheffield United Women’s 17-year-old forward Lucy Watson will be staying at the club for the 2021/22 season.
Watson joined the Blades halfway through the 2019/20 season from Doncaster Rovers Belles, but the
England youth international had to wait until October last year for her debut after her first campaign
was curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Making her senior Blades debut at just 16, Watson’s talent ensured she featured in 15 games from October onwards, including several starts, scoring in both of the team’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup games at the end of the season.
Head coach Neil Redfearn is excited for what’s to come from Watson in the new season: “She made great strides last season. It’s been a gradual process, but she’s ready, we saw that, she played well against Spurs in our last game and I look at her now and there’s a real maturity about her game now. She understands the roles across the front three and gives us real quality.”
Watson added: “I’ve really enjoyed my first season fully as a Blade. Now I’ve started getting some minutes I just hope next season I can progress further and really make my mark in the Championship.
“I think my goal against Tottenham showed I’m hungry for more this season and I’m just ready to
see what this season brings and hopefully it brings more goals for me.”
