Scotland won their opening 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2-0 away to Hungary.

Erin Cuthbert was brought down in the area with 17 minutes played and although her spot kick was saved by Réka Szőcs, she netted the rebound.

Lee Alexander needed a strong hand to turn away a long-range effort from Lilla Sipos, while Cuthbert found Jane Ross in the box but the  effort was curled wide of the far post.

After the break, Kirsty Hanson had a shot tipped round the post and Cuthbert’s diving header hit Ross.

Hungary’s Fanni Vago deflected the ball onto her own crossbar, before Scotland doubled their lead in the last 20 minutes, Claire Emslie’s corner nodded in by substitute Martha Thomas.

Next up for Scotland is the Faroe Islands at Hampden Park on Tuesday, tickets are available here and  the game is also live on BBC ALBA and BBC iPlayer from 7.35pm.
