City see off stubborn ‘Women of Steel’

Glasgow City stayed four points clear at the top after overcoming a Motherwell side who hit back twice.

An early goal from a Leanne Ross free kick for City was cancelled out by Rosie Slater, only for Mairead Fulton to swiftly restore the advantage from the spot.

Aoife Colvill extended the lead on half-time but seconds after the interval, Kodie Hay put ‘Well back into the game again.

Janine van Wyk gave City a 4-2 lead on 50 minutes, finding the net from the edge of the box following a corner.

Girasoli gets double for Gers

Rangers remained a point better off than Celtic ahead of Sunday’s televised clash with a 3-0 victory at Hibernian.

The visitors took an early lead when Carly Girasoli headed home from a Lizzie Arnot corner and the same pair combined to double the lead after half-an-hour, only this time the flag-kick came from the left.

They nearly did it a third time but Girasoli’s second-half header hit the bar, before the scoring was completed on 79 minutes, Sam Kerr crossing for a fine finish from Brianna Westrup over the diving Emily Mutch.

Celtic were 4-0 winners over Spartans, as they made it nine games unbeaten and five without conceding.

Anna Filbey delivered a long ball for Sarah Ewens to open the scoring on 16 minutes, Mariah Lee set up Jacynta Galabadaarachchi for her first goal for the Hoops and Jodie Bartle headed in a Filbey corner before the break.

Just six minutes after the restart and the final goal arrived, former OL Reign player Lee drove into the box and found the far corner.

Hearts hit back to win at Forfar

Hearts lost captain Clare Williamson to injury early on and also went a goal behind but fought back to pick up their second win of the season with a 2-1 success at Forfar.

The home side were ahead from Paterson’s strike in off the post and it was into the last quarter of an hour when Lia Tweedie headed home from a Holly Aitchison corner.

The decider came eight minutes from the end, Jenny Smith beating defenders before finding Monica Forsyth who curled the ball in.
