Despite so few games getting played on 4th March, finalists were confirmed in two cup competitions, while Peterborough United went top in East Midlands Division 1 South.
Phoenix & Wasps in L&SE League Cup Final
The London & South East League’s leading pair – AFC Phoenix and Crawley Wasps – will meet in the Cup Final on 20th May at Maidstone United FC, after winning through Sunday’s semis
AFC Phoenix were two-up against mid-table Fulham by half-time and although the Cottagers got one back to make it 3-1, Phoenix scored twice more for a 5-1 victory.
The Wasps were 3-0 winners over Parkwood Rangers with a goal apiece for Naomi Cole, Faye Rabson and substitute Kemina Webber.
Victoire were 4-2 winners in the Greater London League’s John Greenacre Memorial Trophy 3rd Round away at Sutton United, where Josie Elliott was twice on target.
Clapham United went fourth in Division 1 with a 6-3 success at Bromley, with apparently all nine goals coming in the first half. Danielle Glancy got a couple for the hosts, as did Kate Fidler for the visitors.
Hassocks & Worthing to contest South East Counties Cup
The South East Counties League Cup Final will be contested by Hassocks and Worthing on 22nd April – also at Maidstone United FC – after they both won away in the semis. Hassocks eliminated Bexhill United 2-1 and Worthing were 3-2 victors at Crawley Wasps Reserves, where Hannah Hewlett, Sophie Humphrey and Jodie Pallant got their goals.
The only game played in the Eastern League resulted in Harlow Town hitting Hoddesdon Town Owls 8-1, with a brace each from Chloe Bassett, Tayla Handscomb and Abbey Dell.
Posh progress into pole position
Two games survived in the East Midlands League, one of which saw Loughborough Students leapfrog Mansfield Hosiery Mills into eighth place in the Premier Division by beating them 2-1. Eleasha Hyner and Grace Stanley made it 2-0 by the interval, with the visitors only able to get one back.
Peterborough United replaced Oadby & Wigston Dynamo as Division 1 South leaders, with a 4-2 result at fourth in the table AFC Leicester. Early goals from Jeorgia Carr and Keir Perkins contributed to a 3-1 interval advantage, with Carr going on to complete her hat-trick.
Caddick creates win for West
The sole fixture played in the North West League had sixth-placed West Didsbury & Chorlton win one of their several games in hand on those above them, holding non to beat Liverpool Marshalls Feds Reserves 2-1. Sarah Penny opened the scoring with her first touch from Ellie Caddick’s corner and the latter doubled the lead when latching onto the rebound from her own free kick. The Feds then replied but were unable to find a leveller.
