Reading have signed 24-year-old Scotland international defender Sophie Howard from 1899 Hoffenheim.
Howard has spent the majority of her career to date with the German side and represented Germany U-20s before switching her allegiance to Scotland in 2017.
Howard told reading.fawsl.com about what attracted her to the Royals: “Reading has shown to be a really competitive team and not only wanting to compete with the best teams, but wanting to be one of the best teams. That’s really something every player is thriving for and to be a part of.”
Manager Kelly Chambers added: “I had watched a lot of Sophie and she was someone I really wanted to bring into the squad. She is a player who has great attributes that fits into the way we play perfectly.”
Meanwhile, Royals’ Wales international Melissa Fletcher has retired from the professional game through injury.
The 26-year-old who had been with the club since the age of eight, said on social media that her ankle is “not fit to continue” after two operations.
