Despite the intense heat, it was out on the field for their first pre-season fixtures for a number of sides on Sunday 8 July.

While not all clubs have publicised scores from these games, here is what we know:

UK Armed Forces Women won 2-1 win at Aston Villa thanks to two first-half goals from the Navy’s Ciarra Boylan.

FA Women’s National League side London Bees ran out 5-1 winners against Oxford United.

Cardiff Met have the Champions League qualifying round to prepare for next month and began by sending Cheltenham Town to a 7-1 defeat. New signing Rhian Robbins got the goal for the FAWNL outfit and Amy Leask returned after 12 months out through injury.

Bolton Wanderers began well with a 4-2 victory over higher division opponents in Bradford City.

Chorley went down to a narrow defeat at Guiseley Vixens, while their Development side drew away to their Hull City counterparts.

Crewe Alexandra scored in the opening minute against Wolves through Amanda Fallon and Laura Garner was also on target in their 4-1 win.

Southern League Winchester City Flyers edged National League visitors Poole Town by the only goal on the match.

Cambridge United’s latest new signing Vicky Neal scored twice in a 5-0 win over Royston Town, with Kelly Bingham, Faith Hewitt and Teonie Peyton adding on each. While the U’s fielded 21 players, the visitors’ dozen had little respite from the heatwave.

Elsewhere, Norwich City won away at Newmarket Town and TNS netted a 9-2 win over North Wales champions Northop Hall.
