Manchester City were behind early on in Sweden against Göteborg but Georgia Stanway’s 50th goal for the club set up a 2-1 1st leg result in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 32.

Vilde Bøe Risa had opened the scoring for Göteborg inside two minutes, after Pauline Hammarlund’s initial shot was well-saved by Ellie Roebuck.

Stanway and Caroline Weir were both denied by the bar, before the former again hit the woodwork but this time the ball crossed the line to level the scores at half time.

The winner arrived 15 minutes from time, Weir crossing for Sam Mewis to head into the far corner.

Filippa Angeldal did almost grab a late equaliser but Gareth Taylor’s sider take a 2-1 lead into their home leg next Wednesday afternoon.
