Man City Women go second, Spurs draw 3-3 with Villa

Manchester City went second in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Tottenham Hotspur moved three points off the bottom.

Liverpool 2-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
Reading 2-3 Everton
Tottenham Hotspur 3-3 Aston Villa
Manchester City 6-2 West Ham United

There were three goals from outside the box in the opening dozen minutes, during Manchester City’s victory over West Ham. Chloe Kelly struck twice in a minute, Emma Snerle replied before Laura Coombs headed home a Kelly cross. After the hour mark, Khadija Shaw scored with a sharp turn and there was a tap-in for Steph Houghton. Lisa Evans’ effort deflected in off post and City keeper Khiara Keating, Mary Fowler headed home a sixth for the hosts.

Tottenham were two down to Aston Villa, fought back to lead but had to settle for a draw. Kirsty Hanson and Rachel Daly struck for Villa in the first 21 minutes, Eveliina Summanen soon pulling one back for Spurs and equalising early in the second half, Beth England completed the turnaround, only for Daly to double her tally to make it 3-3.

Reading stay one point from danger having let slip a two-goal advantage. Justine Vanhaevermaet netted a second-minute penalty and doubled her tally after 27 minutes. Hanna Bennison got Everton back in it close to halftime, Katie Snoeijs levelling from the spot on 62 minutes. With seven minutes to go, Nicoline Sorensen gave the visitors the lead for the first time.

Liverpool went seventh after coming from behind to defeat Brighton, who remain two points off the bottom. Elisabeth Terland gave Brighton an interval lead, Ceri Holland replied for the Reds and then put them ahead with 20 minutes left.
