The League Managers Association has announced new, monthly awards, starting this season, to celebrate the Managers of the Month in The FA Women’s Super League and The FA Women’s Championship for the 2018/19 season.
The LMA will present eight monthly awards during the season, culminating at the LMA Annual Awards Dinner in May 2019, where the Managers of the Year for both The FA Women’s Super League and The FA Women’s Championship will be announced.
The panel for the monthly awards will comprise four highly experienced individuals with specialist knowledge of the women’s game and football management, including Marieanne Spacey-Cale (former England and Arsenal/Fulham star and no LMA Member and Southampton FC Head of Girls and Women’s Football/Head Coach), Alex Scott (Ex-England International and football broadcaster), our own Jen O’Neill (Editor of She Kicks – women’s football magazine) and Alan Curbishley (LMA Board Member and LMA Manager of the Year 1999/2000).
Chair of the Manager of the Month Awards Panel Marieanne Spacey-Cale said: “I am really looking forward to the new season starting and observing how the players, coaches and managers perform in what is sure to be one of the best seasons to date. I am excited to work alongside my panel colleagues to select the monthly winners of these prestigious awards and I am sure we will face some challenging selections given the calibre of managers working in the women’s game.”
LMA Chief Executive Richard Bevan added: “I am delighted that, as part of the LMA’s ongoing commitment to supporting its members in the women’s game, we will be celebrating the successes of the managers in both The FA Women’s Super League and The FA Women’s Championship throughout the season.
“The women’s game in England has seen some remarkable achievements at both international and club level in recent years as a direct consequence of the high quality and hard work of the managers. Our awards will allow the LMA the opportunity to congratulate those who excel and deliver success with their teams.”
The Manager of the Month awards will be distributed alongside the existing Player of the Month awards across both divisions, run by The FA. The first awards of the season will be announced in early October, taking all league games played in September into consideration.
