Fran Kirby converted a penalty and Keira Walsh hit the post as England lost a friendly 3-1 to France in Caen.
Ellie Roebuck tipped the ball over the bar when Sandy Baltimore came inside and let fly from outside the box but the same player curled the ball into the top corner on 32 minutes, from a cutback by Kadidiatou Diani.
Nikita Parris had a free header with which she should have equalised but placed it wide of the far post.
Diani hit the bar after the hour mark but from the rebound a penalty was given for Rachel Daly’s challenge on Elisa de Almeida and Viviane Asseyi doubled the lead.
Lauren Hemp then won a spot-kick which Fran Kirby slotted into the bottom corner and only the post denied Keira Walsh an equaliser, after good work again by Hemp.
However, France broke away to restore their two-goal advantage, Diani going past Lottie Wubben-Moy and crossing for Marie-Antoinette Katoto to tap home.
Up next for the Lionesses is Canada at Stoke City on Tuesday night, kick off 7.15pm, live on BBC Four, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.
